Incredible soft and lightweight, this pure Baby Llama yarn is a great choice for someone with wool sensitivities who loves natural fibres. Perfect for next to the skin wear, and great for children and babies knit and crochet items. The fibres come from young llamas, who need to be sheared in the spring so keep them cool and healthy all summer long. It is available in six colours, each of which I naturally dyed with plant materials in my Toronto studio.
Goldenrod Yellow was created using henna and crushed marigold flowers to achieve a rich tapestry of golds.
Butter Yellow was created using cheery marigold flowers that I grew in my organic vegetable patch!
Dewdrop Green comes from yarrow flowers, which I also grew in my herb garden. Yarrow is a fantastic edible, medicinal, and pollinator friendly plant, as well as being my favourite dye plant.
Coral Pink is achieved with madder root, one of the oldest sources of natural plant dyes.
Wave Blue is a semi solid dyed with indigo, while Prairie Skies blue is a self striping indigo dyed yarn. Indigo dye has been used around the world for many centuries, as it's one of the few plant based sources of blue. With a bit of coaxing, indigo plants can make a wonderful range from pale sky blue to the deepest navy.
Fibre natural dyed with indigo tend to have some "rub off" of colour. It's not at all harmful and will wash off your hands, but may stain wooden needles.
Alpaca and llama yarn is thought to be up to 4 times warmer than wool, yet lightweight and oh so soft. A great choice for natural fibre lovers with skin sensitivities. And it's a 2-ply yarn (two individual strands wound together during spinning), so it's sturdy and durable
