An absolute staple in the dye garden, as well as the veggie patch! French marigolds (Tagetes patula) are cheery annual bedding plants that make excellent companion plants in the vegetable garden (their scent helps ward off pests). They bloom all season long- the more you pick, the more they'll bloom. Their potential as a dye plant is fabulous. Their bright orange and yellow blooms hold the potential for a range of yellow, mustard, and olive green colours on natural fibres. I wouldn't be without them in my garden!
Sow seeds twice their depth directly in the garden after all risk of frost, or start indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost.
Prefer full sun, although will tolerate some light shade. Edible flowers.
