Botanical Colour At My Fingertips by Rebecca Desnos, natural dyeing resource book
An excellent guide to natural dyeing that will instruct and inspire! Learn tips and tricks from Rebecca Desnos to achieve stunning natural colours from plant materials, including her unique technique for using soy milk as a mordant.
This beautiful little guidebook, self published by the fantastic natural dyer Rebecca Desnos, contains everything the beginner dyer needs to get going, plus lots of interesting tips for more experienced dyers. My personal favourite section is all about the ancient (but often overlooked) practice of using soy milk as a mordant, and it's effects on dyeing plant based fibres. Oh and the avocado dyeing section! Who would have thought you could get grogeous pinks from avocado pits and skins? The book also contains tips on painting with iron, the effects of pH on colour, collecting plants, storing leftover dyes for future use, and lots more.
