Indigo Dyeing Basics: Beautiful Blues
If you think the idea of extracting dye from plants is magical, just wait until you try it with indigo! Come watch fibres turn from pale yellow-green in the dye bath to blue in mid air, right before your eyes. Join me for a day of unraveling the secrets of this thrilling natural dye. We'll go over various ways of starting your own indigo dye vat, as well as tips for getting the most out of it. Everyone will have the chance to try their hand at solid- or ombre- dyeing skeins of yarn, and creating shibori prints.
Basic materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own extra natural fibres (yarn, fabric, wood, leather, etc) in case there's pigment leftover at the end of the class!
If you are taking the Natural Dyeing Basics workshop earlier in the day, feel free to bring some of your recently dyed fibres to overdye!
